Mentors are Needed!

In our own lives, each of us was touched by someone - other than our parents - who introduced us to new worlds and brought a little magic into our lives. By becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister you can do the same for a child and you will both be forever changed by the experience.

The Community Mentor

A mentor is a person who wants to share some "little" moments and bring some "Big" magic into the lives of children. We are in need of adult mentors who are common people and are willing to make a difference in the life of a child. Listed below are the requirements to become a mentor.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have resided in our service area for at least 6 months.
  • Must be willing to commit to 8 to 16 hours per month for one year.
  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle with insurance coverage.
  • Must agree to work within the guidelines that our agency sets.
  • Must have a stable home environment.
  • Must be willing to have criminal and child abuse clearances completed at no cost to the volunteer.

Once the paperwork is completed, our caseworker will arrange office and home interviews so we can match common interests, hobbies and skills. We strive for compatibility to assure the fulfillment of the child's needs and your needs through this one-on-one relationship.

The caseworker will supervise and support the mentor (Big), the child (Little), and the parent. Goals are set for positive growth and enrichment and regular contacts are maintained between the mentor, parent/guardian, child and our agency. Our emphasis is on building good relationships and creating magic in the lives of children.
